ewwwwwwwwwzzzz do NOT fake tan unless you want to look like an oompa loompa.. Why don't you just layout in the sun for a couple hours duh.
Johnsons is great or Dove but you have to moisturise first let that dry in then apply fake tan and way less on the elbows knees and hands!
Ok... well the best tan for a first time user is Lancome flash bronzer..you can buy it in a creme form or a spray tan for a first time user creme is better..





Then try st tropez everyday tanning moisturiser..just to deepen it every day.





Also Loreal sublime bronze is very good.





I personally use a spray tan machine from Babyliss..called beach bronze system..its very good but quite expensive.
Try a tinted body moisturiser like Dove Summer Glow or Johnsons Holiday Skinin the darkest color, It gradually creates a fake tan so you can stop when your happy with the colour and you dont have to risk streaks or a horrible orange look.
I found L'oreal Sublime Bronze self-Tanning Dry Mist quite good. Very easy to apply. Streak free!

St Tropez - pricey but worth it
i tink rimmel instant tan is the best it looks natural and if you apply it wrong you can wash it straight off!!
